July, 2018 Update

On Thursday, July 19, 2018, the Minnesota Public Utilities Commission found Southern Minnesota Energy Cooperative (SMEC) in compliance with the five-year rate transition plan approved by the Commission in 2015 as part of the initial sale of Alliant Energy’s Minnesota electric distribution assets to SMEC. The Commission made the following deposition:

  • Accepted SEMC’s December 21, 2017 filing and its subsequent amendments as compliant with the Commission’s June 15, 2015 Order in this proceeding.
  • Accepted SMEC’s Class Cost of Service Studies as compliant with the Commission’s Order.
  • Approved SMEC’s proposed rate increases for Years 1 (2018) and 2 (2019).

Former Alliant Energy members were notified earlier in the year by their local electric cooperative of the next stage in the rate transition plan that would be implemented on August 1, 2018.
